Description

Impressive life sized bust of a Victorian gentleman in white marble c.1870. Standing 28" tall, very well carved head and shoulders length bust of a gentleman with a splendid moustache and muttonchop side whiskers. Interesting costume detail - note the rather informal soft shirt collar and bow tie and the unusual asymmetrical coat lapels suggesting this may be a portrait bust of an artist rather than a city dignitary. Unfortunately the bust has been badly damaged in the past and there is an obvious repair to the neck. The tip of the nose has also been remodelled and these is a a small portion of damage and a repair to the coat front. Presented as found.
