Description

Large Edwardian era painted plaster bust of a Renaissance lady by the French sculptor Leon Noel Delagrange (1872 – 1910). Shoulder length bust of a young woman in 16th.c. dress and cap. Unusually posed with down cast eyes and a slight smile. Clearly signed Delagrange on the rear. One quite large chip to the front and a few smaller knocks, all to the bottom edge. Otherwise excellent condition.
Dimensions: width 22″, depth 8″, height 17″.

As well as being a prolific and successful sculptor Delagrange was also a pioneer of early aviation. He established a new world aviation speed record of 45 miles an hour on 30th December 1909. Sadly he was killed in an aircrash just a few days later.
