Description

Very unusual first world war era wall pocket or candle box. A fascinating piece of trench art presumably assembled from a soldier’s wartime souvenirs. The backboard is the tip of a laminated mahogany airplane propeller retaining the original and distinctively shaped brass protection to the leading edge. Mounted on the front of the attached oak box is a metal badge taken from a German solidier’s belt buckle, stamped with the German phrase Gott Mit Uns (God with us). The front also carries a postcard photograph behind glass showing the destruction of battlefront town (possibly Ypres). Condition is excellent, original though out.
Dimensions width 9½”, depth 6″, height 16″.
