Description

Beautiful Syrian mother of pearl inlaid chest of drawers c.1960. Chest of four drawers with pronounced serpentine shape to the front and sides. In walnut decorated with hundreds of pieces of white mother of pearl inlay with colourful abalone shell elements and darker stained wood. A fine example of traditional Syrian inlay work with attractive floral motifs flanking central Islamic geometric detail to the top and the drawer fronts, within inlaid borders. Exceptional panels to the sides featuring a large spay of flowers in a vase. The unusual black and white diamond shaped drawer knobs combine well with the decoration. Raised on shaped bracket feet to the front and sides also with inlaid decoration. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
