Description

Beautiful art deco bronze sculpture of Androcles and the lion c.1930. Depicted as a powerfully built Greek wrestler with loincloth and headband with his right arms raised in salute to Caesar. Walking at heel beside him is the lion with flowing mane. Superbly cast in bronze with a particularly good colour and patina. Presented on a highly figured split level black marble plinth. Signed on the plinth G.Daverny and Editions Reveyrolis Paris. Both the figure and lion are stamped Bronze Veritable. Excellent condition.
