Description

Early 20th.c. French desk or bureau plat in burr elm c.1910. 57" x 29½" top with the original faux leather writing surface and matching 12" slides drawing out from both ends. Five drawers arranged around a raised knee hole at the centre (height 24"). Beautifully figured burr walnut veneers across the piece with inlaid stringing. Empire style brass escutcheons to the drawer fronts. Note how the design is repeated with dummy drawers complete with escutcheons on the rear of the desk. Raised on slim tapering legs with brass mounts at the feet. Some lumps and wear to the writing surface which could be replaced with leather (colour of your choice) if preferred. Otherwise very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
