Verge escapement

A fine London verge, within a gold and enamel ‘momento mori’ case containing a locket of hair.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone, silver regulator disk, four round pillars and blued steel screws.

Signed “Wm. Nodes, London”.

In excellent condition and running well.

DIAL : Original white enamel dial.
In reasonable condition with no chips, but one hairline running through the winding aperture between 4 and 7.

Gilt brass hands.

CASE : A beautiful gold and enamel case, with a memorial plaque inb the back, displaying a lock of hair, with the word ‘AMITIE’ (friendship). Gold hallmarks for London, 1781, maker IW, case number 1330.

White enamel ‘pearls’ on a green enamel background around the bezel and back. Amysthyst coloured guilloche enamel centre to the back, with a split pearl frome to the central panel. This glazed panel contains further enamel borders in red and with a lock of hair and central gem set swags surrounding an enamel engraved with “AMITIE”.

All in reasonable condition. On the bezel there is some enamel missing to the pearls on the left and some small areas of green enamel missing.

The bezel catch is complete and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crustal is fine.
