A good London verge, with interesting personalised dial, by a fine maker.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with nicely engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Silver regulator disk and blued screws. Four baluster pillars.

Signed and numbered (7901).

The movement is in good condition though the balance cock foot does not line up perfectly with the plates, so may be a replacement. It is running well.

Fine condition.

Good 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1783, maker’s mark ITP, and movement serial number 7901.

Very good condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut, though leaves a slight gap towards the hinge.

The high dome crystal is in good condition.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with matching hallmarks to the inner.

In good condition, with just a little damage to the rim of the bezel at the catch.
The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

At this period watches by Edward Ellicott (I) were just signed ‘Ellicott’.
Edward held the Royal Warrant of Watchmaker to the King (George III), and he died in 1791.

The case maker’s mark is for John Terrill Pain of Fetter Lane, London.

The dial inscription roughy translates as : “I am from Don Silvestre Asensio of Barreda”. Barreda is in Northern Spain.
