Gold & enamel case, 39 mm.
Verge escapement

A late 18th century, Paris verge in a fine gold case with beautiful enamel.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, silver regulator disk, four round pillars and blued steel screws. Signed ‘Romilly, A Paris” , and numbered “7539”.

In good condition and running well.

DIAL : Original white enamel dial, signed as the movement. In perfect condition, except for some damage around the screw head that fixes the dial to the movement plate.

Fine matching gold hands.

CASE : A beautiful gold case in very good condition. Rose gold highlighted with green enamel leaves and blue & white flowers, with a blue enamel border on the back surrounding a beautiful enamel hunting scene (wild fowl shooting over a lake).

The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The gold itself is in fine condition, with just a dent to the small catch button.

There are a few small pieces of the enamel missing on the bezel and borders. The plaque is in wonderful condition. High dome crystal, with a few light scratches and a tiny chip on the bezel.

Jean Romilly worked in Paris from 1752 until his death in 1794.

PROVENANCE : From the Landrock collection of clocks and watches.
Horst Landrock was a German watchmaker and collector. During the mid 20th century he brought together an extensive collection of old timepieces of all kinds, which was one of the most important private collections in Germany.
