Description

An impressive, very large, centre seconds verge, with stone set bezel.

MOVEMENT : Gilded verge movement, signed (Jno. Taylor, London) and numbered (1163) with pierced and engraved balance cock and diamond endstone. Four square pillars.
The lever under the dial at 9 o’clock stops and restarts the movement. The movement is protected by a removable gilt dustcap, signed and numbered as the movement.

The movement is in good condition, and is running well, though the stop lever doesn’t always engage the contrate wheel to stop the movement.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial, in excellent condition with just some very light surface scratches.
Gilt beetle hour hand (probably original) and later plain brass minute hand. Black steel centre seconds hand.

INNER CASE : Gilt/brass in good condition, with just a little wear to the gilding (mainly to the bezel, stem and bow). Stamped with maker’s mark (JA). The hinge is fine though the bezel doesn’t snap shut (though held firmly by the outer case).
The high dome crystal is in good condition, with no chips, but some light scratches and a small bubble in the glass near 12.

OUTER CASE : Engraved gilt/brass with stone set bezel. In good condition, with even wear to the gilding. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely.

The bezel has been restored, with the original stones replaced with faceted coloured glass.
