Description

Richard Hone, London, c1750
Silver pair cases = 50.5 mm
Verge movement

A nice mid 18th century verge with original champleve dial, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced balance cock and plate, four square pillars and silver regulator disk. Signed “Hone, LONDON” and numbered (190). Steel set ruby endstone. In good condition and running well. The endstone fitting shows solder remnants and has probably been added later, and there is a small piece missing from the stopwork bracket at the fusee.

DIAL : Silver champleve dial in very good condition. Signed “HONE, LONDON”. Nice original 18th century blued steel hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, maker's mark WB (rubbed). In good condition throughout, though the pendant has been reattached and the base reinforced. The bull's eye crystal has a few scratches but no chips. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case. Rubbed maker's mark. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly, though the catch button has worn down. In overall good condition.

Richard Hone is listed in London from before 1747 until about 1750.
