Description

Thomas Gardner, London, 1760
Gold repouse pair cases, verge movement.

MOVEMENT Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, and silver regulator disk. Signed 'Thos. Gardner, London' and numbered (9646). Four square pillars.
All in good original condition and running. There is some wear to the tops of the pillars and the small ornamental piece is broken off the case spring (non functional). But in overall good condition.

DIAL Nice white enamel in almost perfect condition. There is just a small chip at the catch at 6, and a very light small hairline on the edge between 3 and 4. Fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE 22ct. gold, with London hallmarks for 1760, maker CC? (rubbed). There is a little wear to the top of the stem (which has been reattached), one sleeve missing from the hinge and a few light bruises around the band. But the bezel snaps shut nicely and in generally good condition. Good high dome bull's eye crystal.

OUTER CASE 46.5 mm. A fine 22ct. gold pair case, with wonderful repousse work. Very little wear to the repousse work. No holes but signs on the inside of 2 small repairs though these don't show from the outside.. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.

The gold cases weigh 37 gms (excluding movement and crystal).

Thomas Gardner is listed in London from 1740 until his death in 1770.
