Description

This is a very rare half quarter dumb repeater with cylinder movement in a nice half hunter silver case.

MOVEMENT Good quality gilded cylinder movement with engraved balance cock, diamond endstone and blued screws. Signed (Bicknell & Co., late Allam & Co.) and numbered (3824).
The half/quarter repeating function is activated by pushing down the stem. The dumb repeater taps steel blocks on the side of the case with one tap for each hour, a double tap for each quarter and a single for each half quarter (seven and a half minutes). The movement is in good original condition and running well. The repeat function is also working and reasonably reliably though about 5 minutes out of sync with the time.

DIAL White enamel. Although no repairs, there is some damage with a hairline across from 10 to 4, a couple of flakes at the centre hole and two tiny chips on the edge at 6. The minute hand is a replacement.

CASE Silver. London hallmarks for 1812, maker RG. In very good condition throughout with just a couple of really small dings. The small crystal has a few light scratches and appears to be original.

Bicknell & Co. are listed in Bond Street, London in 1811
