Silver pair cases – Daniel Ray, Sudbury, c1720


Description
Nice early verge with silver champleve calendar dial.MOVEMENT Signed (Dan Ray, SUDBURY), gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, engraved, pierced balance cock and plate, and silver regulator disc. The balance cock has the unusual feature of 2 brackets used to screw the cock to the plate. In complete and good condition. Both watch and calendar function are running well.
DIAL Signed silver champleve dial, with calendar aperture. In very good condition. Nice early 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE No hallmarks. In good condition though with one light bruise on the back and some minor damage where the pendant has been reattached to the case.The high dome bull's eye crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.
OUTER CASE Again no hallmarks. In very good condition throughout. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the case closes nicely.
There is a father and son, both called Daniel Ray, listed in Sudbury, Suffolk between 1698 and 1772.
