Description

HMS Foudroyant was an 80 gun third rate ship of the Royal Navy, one of only two British built 80 gun ships of the period. Built in the dockyard at Plymouth and launched on 31 March 1798, Foudroyant went on to serve Nelson as his flagship until the end of June 1800.
She retired from active service in 1812 a became a training vessel for boys. In June 1897 after a violent storm she went ashore on Blackpool Sands. After vain attempts to refloat her she was sold for £200 and craftsmen used flotsam from the wreck to make furniture and wooden artefacts.
