Description

Offered for sale is this superb quality very large early Victorian mahogany telescopic extending dining table extending from approximately 64" x 58" to 156" x 58" with four leaves, all original. The shaped top has a double lipped moulded edge and stands on turned and faceted supports with original brass castors. The extending pull out mechanism has double runners for strength and stability and works in such a way that the ends pull out past the legs thus enabling such a large table to have only four legs. The mechanism works very well and is very stable. This good quality large antique Victorian mahogany extending dining table dates to about 1850 and spent its first 150 years as a boardroom table and hence all original runners are in superb order. The table is in excellent showroom condition having been cleaned and sympathetically repolished whilst retaining its original characte. The timber used is of the highest quality being very dense with a good grain pattern and has to be seen to be fully appreciated. The table will take seven large chairs down each side with a further two at each end making it a comfortable 18 seater. The table comes complete with original leaf cabinet to house the four leaves when not in use.
