Description

Without any question, the best Hepplewhite style chair back settee I've ever seen. The highest of quality, in fact probably better than a period one. The settee is mainly mahogany but has inter-woven boxwood to the backs. The chair backs are absolutely superb with carved boxwood swags inter-twined with the pierced mahogany. Prince of Wales feathers to the tops in boxwood with carved mahogany bows to the stems. The arms are a nice shape with carved roundel recoration. The settee stands on 7 legs, 4 to the front with 3 to the rear. The legs and arms are decorated with carved boxwood. The settee is covered in a light pink velvet which is in good clean condition, the upholstery is also good and firm.

The settee is in very good condition with only one small repaired crack that I can see and it is a good colour with good patination. The mahogany that has been used is of good quality.

I believe it to be a Scottish Edinburgh made piece and is probably stamped inside but I have no wish to remove the upholstery to find out, all I know was it was the very best of Victorian craftsman that made it as they don't come any better.

The best I have ever seen !!!!!
