Description

Fine and Rare George II solid yew wood bureau bookcase, probably Irish. This stunning piece of 18th century yew wood furniture is in very good original condition. The bureau with two over three drawer configuration, the drawers with cock beading round the edges, original iron locks and beautiful original brass pierced plate handles. The interior of the bureau is unusual in the fact that it is all drawers, all of which are oak lined with the original brass knob handles. The piece stands on early shape bracket feet.

The top section with two doors is fully fitted inside with drawers and pigeon holes etc. The doors retain their original steel bolts and the drawers their original brass handles. Nice shape cornice to the top.

The whole piece is a stunningly beautiful colour with deep patination from years of waxing. The overall condition for such an early piece is very good, there are a few minor old repairs but nothing serious. The bureau part even with the drawers removed is incredibly heavy.

Large pieces of yew-wood furniture are not common and this is a particularly good piece.
