Description

This is an attractive, slim George V Sterling Silver Vesta Case. The oblong Vesta is engraved with acanthus leaves to front and back and has a heartshaped blank cartouche on the front. Both top and bottom taper in to give the vesta its slim profile.

The vesta case was made in Birmingham by Rolason Brothers and dates to 1915. The Rolason Brothers established their company in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in the mid-1880s. They made a wide range of small silver items for personal and table use and also registered a mark in Chester. They remained in business up until the late 1920s.

Conditions is fair, with a few little dings to front and back. The hinge is in good working order and the lid snaps shut but does leave a tiny gap at the far end from the hinge. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vesta case measures 5.4cm / 2.1ins by 3.5cm / 1.4ins and weighs in at 18.0g / 0.63oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the inside rim of the case, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter q for 1915 and the R.Bs makers' mark for Rolason Brothers.
