Here we have a top quality Victorian Cased Set of Six Teaspoons plus Sugar Tongs. The spoons and tongs have shell shaped bowls, twisted stems and thistle finials. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoons and tongs were made in London by noted silversmiths Sibray, Hall & Co and date to 1890. The firm was founded in Sheffield in 1878 by Frederick Sibray and Job Frank Hall and registered marks in Sheffield and London, where they opened a showroom in 1890. After Sibray’s death in 1891, Hall continued alone before taking Charles Clement Pilling as partner in 1898, who took sole control of the firm in 1900. The company remained in business into the mid-1920s. The set was retailed by high end London silversmiths Mappin Brothers.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 135 years of good service. The box is in good condition with just a few minor scuffs. The hinge and clasp are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 11cm / 4.3ins long and the sugar tongs are 10.6cm / 4.2ins long. The set, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 109.3g / 3.85oz / 3.51toz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the backs of the bowls, are a little tricky to read with the naked eye because of the shell pattern but are clear with a magnifier. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter P for 1890 and the F S over J H makers' mark for Frank Sibray and Job Frank Hall of Sibray, Hall & Co.
