Description

This is a fun George V Sterling Silver Pin Cushion in the form of a Boot. It is a well made item, nicely modelled with the pin cushion poking out of the top. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The pin cushion was made in Birmingham by highly regarded silversmiths Crisford & Norris and dates to 1912. Harold Crisford & William Norris established their business in 1896 at premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. They are best known for their good quality and well designed small items for personal use, novelty baby rattles, pin cushions and stylish powder compacts. They remained in business up until around 1970.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. The cushion has hardened a little with time but still holds pins securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The boot measures 6.8cm / 2.7ins from toe to heel, is 2.2cm / 0.87ins wide and stands 4.2cm / 1.6ins high. It weighs 39.7g / 1.4oz.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the boot near the cushion, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter n for 1912 and the C & N makers' mark for Crisford & Norris.

Shipping in the UK is £13.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the pin cushion.
