Description

This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Pickle Fork. The fork is in the Old English pattern with the addition of a classical urn and scrolls at the top of the stem. There are no intials or personalisation of any kind.

The fork was made in Sheffield by highly regarded silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Son and dates to 1921. The firm traced its origin back to Fenton, Creswick & Co in 1773 with the first Thomas Bradbury joining as a partner in 1795. By 1831 the firm was run by Thomas Bradbury Snr & Jnr and remained in the control of the Bradbury family until the early years of the 20th century. The company was bought by Atkin Brothers in 1943 and they maintained the brand name into the early 1950s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 100 years of good use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pickle fork is 18.3cm / 7.2ins long and weighs in at a respectable 32.6g / 1.15oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter d for 1921 and the T B & S makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Son. In addition there is a registered design number of 607968, which dates the original design to 1912.
