Description

Here we have a very stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Photo Frame. The frame has a visible picture size of 5.25ins by 3.25ins and has an angled strut so that it can be stood either portrait style or landscape style. The silver front has an engine turned pattern all the way round and there are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The photo frame was made in Birmingham by silversmiths W.J. Myatt & Co and dates to 1934, the height of the Art Deco era. The firm was founded in Birmingham by William James Myatt in 1895, initially as electroplaters. They became W.J. Myatt & Co in 1899, registered a silver mark at the Birmingham assay office and went on to open a showroom in London’s Hatton Garden. After WW2 they ceased producing Sterling Silver but continued to produce electroplate and pewter.

Condition is very good, with just a small ding to one side of the silver frame plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. The strut is securely attached and in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The frame is 15.6cm / 6.1ins high, 10.6cm / 4.2ins wide and stands 11cm / 4.3ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 125g / 4.4oz.

The hallmarks, on the side of the frame, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter K for 1934 and the W J M & Co makers' mark for W.J. Myatt & Co.

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
