Description

This is a smart Art Deco Silver Plate Serving Tray. The tray is octagonal with two long sides and two short sides with geometric handles. There are low sloping sides topped with stepped rims.

The tray was made in England for Harrods Ltd, the world famous department store in Knightsbridge in London. Sir Richard Woodman Burbidge was chairman of Harrods, succeeding his father in 1917 and up until his death in 1945. He encouraged the development of Harrods' own silverware ranges. Harrods' silver workshops were at this time located in Trevor Square, across the road from the main Harrods store, and there was also a small silverware showroom there. The Harrods name was always a guarantee of good quality pieces.

Condition is good, with no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tray is of a substantial size measuring 55cm / 21.6ins from handle to handle, 34.3cm / 13.5ins across and standing 1.7cm / 0.67ins high. It weighs 2.01kg / 71oz.

The underside of the tray is stamped A1 for the best quality silver plate and has the H Ld makers' mark and the Harrods London SW retail mark, with Made In England stamped below this.
