Description

Here we have a charming Edwardian Sterling Silver Pin Cushion in the form of an Pig. The pig is nicely modelled and weighted for stability. The green velvet pin cushion is inset in the pig's back.

The pin cushion was made in Birmingham by Sydney & Co and dates to 1908. Sydney & Co was founded by Judah, Albert & Lionel Ahronsberg in around 1900 at premises in Powell Street in Birmingham. They produced an extensive range of small silverware for personal and domestic use and also made a range of trophy cups. The firm was very successful and remained in business until around the mid 1970s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 115 years of good service. It rocks very slightly on a flat surface. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pin cushion is 5.4cm / 2.1ins from snout to tail, 1.6cm / 0.63ins across the body and stands 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. It weighs 19.6g / 0.69oz.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body, are a little rubbed but still okay to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter i for 1908 and the S & Co makers' mark for Sydney & Co.

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the pin cushion.
