Description

This is an attractive George V Dressing Table Tidy Pot with a Sterling Silver and Faux Tortoiseshell Lid. The handblown circular glass pot is lobed and the silver lid has the thin faux tortoiseshell panel inset around the central aperture.

The pot was made in Birmingham by Sanders & Mackenzie and dates to 1922. Ernest W. Sanders and Henry A. Mackenzie established their firm in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in 1911. They were very successful, producing a broad range of silverware from their premises in Spencer Street, where they remained in business until around 1980.

Condition is good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, just a couple of truly tiny dings in the silver and the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pot is 7.5cm / 2.9ins in diameter and stands 5.5cm / 2.2ins high. It weighs 129.5g / 4.5oz.

The hallmarks,on the outside rim of the lid, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter x for 1922 and the S & M makers' mark for Sanders & Mackenzie.
