Description

This is a neat, small George V Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoon was made in Birmingham by Marson & Jones and dates to 1934. Frederick Marson established his firm in Birmingham in 1845 and was succeeded by his son, Frederick Junior in 1896. He took Harry Jones as partner in 1915 and the company was renamed Marson & Jones, a name it retained after Frederick’s retirement in 1918. They remained in business up until the start of WW2.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard spoon is 5.5cm / 2.1ins long and weighs in at 2.8g / 0.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter K for 1934 and the M & J makers' mark for Marson & Jones.
