Art Nouveau Pewter Vase, Kayserzinn, c.1895-1910

Description
This is a very stylish Art Nouveau / Jugendstil German Pewter Vase. The circular bulbous vase has two squared handles and different floral designs to front and back. It stands on a circular rim foot. The vase was made in Germany by J.P. Kayser Sohn as part of their Kayserzinn range and dates to between 1895 and 1910. The firm was founded by Jean P. Kayser in Krefeld-Bochum, Germany in 1885 and was joined by his son Englebert in the 1890s. From the mid-1890s they produced a groundbreaking range of Jugendstil / Art Nouveau pewter designs for domestic items. Liberty & Co introduced their pieces to Britain in the 1890s and their success led to the launch of Liberty’s own Tudric range of pewter a few years later. By the start of the First World War Kayser's heyday was over and the firm struggled through the 1920s before closing in 1930.
Condition is very good with just a shallow bruise low down on one side of the body. The vase has developed a nice patina with hints of its original polished silver finish catching the light. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vase stands 15.2cm / 6ins high and is 14.4cm / 5.6ins across at its widest point. The neck opening is 7cm / 2.75ins in diameter. The vase weighs 881g / 31oz.
The underside of the base is stamped KAYSERZINN and has the product number 4082.
