Description

This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Oval Photo Frame with a visible picture size of 8ins by 5.25ins. The frame has a plain silver front with an easel style wooden back and strut.

The photo frame was made in Birmingham by Charles S Green & Co and dates to 1925. Charles Stevenson Green was a grandson of the original Charles Green who founded his firm in Birmingham in 1824, later becoming Charles Green & Son. Originally a partner in this firm with his brothers Lionel and Roland, Charles S. Green left in 1904 to set up his own company Charles S. Green & Co Ltd. Both companies were very successful with Charles S. Green & Co remaining in business up until around 1990 and Charles Green & Son still going strong today.

Condition is good, with a few little dings in the silver plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 100 years of use. The hinge and strut are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The frame is 22.8cm / 8.9ins high by 15.8cm / 6.2ins wide and stands 15cm / 5.9ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 294g / 10.3oz.

The hallmarks, on the side rim of the frame, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter A for 1925 and the C S G & Co makers'mark for Charles S. Green & Co.

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
