Description

This is an attractive Vintage Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the rarely seen Grecian pattern. The upper part of the stem is beaded with a floral drop. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard spoon was made in Birmingham for S.J. Rose & Son and dates to 1985. Stephen J Rose founded his company in London in 1921, becoming S.J. Rose & Son in the late 1930s. They had retail premises in London and registered marks in the London, Birmingham and Chester assay offices. They offered a wide range of high quality silverware and remained in business into the 1990s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 7.1cm / 2.8ins long and weighs in at 4.2g / 0.15oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter L for 1985 and the S.J.R sponsors' mark for S.J. Rose & Son.
