Description

This is an elegant French Art Nouveau Pewter Ink Stand. The wide stand has three trays, the front one decorated with clover leaves and the ones on either side with berries. It is a typically Nouveau organic shape with whiplash decoration. The hinged lid in the centre lifts to reveal a removable brass inkwell.

The ink stand was made in France by A.K & Cie (A.K & Co) and dates to around 1890-1910. We've not been able to find information about this company but they were clearly accomplished pewterers.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. The pewter has developed a nice patina with the clover leaves and berries shining against the darker background. The hinged lid works smoothly. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The ink stand is 31.7cm / 12.5ins wide, 20.5cm / 8.1ins deep and stands 7cm / 2.7ins high. It weighs 583g / 20.5oz.

The underside of the frame at the back is stamped A.K & Cie.
