Description

Here we have a superb George III Sterling Silver Goblet with a Gilt interior. The goblet has a circular line decorated foot, a short pedestal stem and a broad part reeded bowl. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The goblet was made in London by silversmith Robert Hennell (I) and dates to 1793. The renowned Hennell family firm of silversmiths was established by David Hennell (I) in London in 1736 with his son Robert Hennell (I) joining in 1763. Several further generations including a second David and three more Roberts continued the business until it was finally sold to Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater in 1887.

Condition is very good, with just a couple of little dings in the body plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 230 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The goblet is 11.6cm / 4.5ins high and 7.8cm / 3ins wide. It weighs in at a substantial 130.9g / 4.62oz / 4.2toz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside of the body, are somewhat rubbed but can still be deciphered. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter s for 1793, the George III duty mark and the R H makers' mark for Robert Hennell (I).

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the goblet.
