Description

Here have a charming George V Sterlng Silver Cased Dressmaker's or Tailor's Tape Measure. The steel tape is marked in both inches and centimetres, unusual for this period, and is housed in a circular silver case. It is marked up to 40 inches on one side and 100cm on the other and rewinds itself when released.

The tape measure was made in 1911, with the silver case made by E.S. Barnsley in Birmingham and the steel tape made by Chesterman in Sheffield. These are both highly regarded manufacturers in their respective fields.

Condition is good with just a couple of little dings in the case plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 110 years of good service. The tape pulls out smoothly and retracts well. PLease make sure to view all the photographs.

The case is 3.2cm / 1.25ins in diameter and 1cm / 0.39ins deep. All together it weighs in at 36.7g / 1.29oz.

The hallmarks on the case are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1911 and the E.S.B makers' mark (struck twice) for E.S. Barnsley & Co. The steel tape is marked Chesterman, Sheffield, England.
