2 x George II Silver Dessert Spoons, J.King, 1739

Description
Here we have a smart Pair of George II Sterling Silver Dessert Spoons in the Hanoverian with Rat Tail pattern. The spoons are engraved with an armorial of a central crown surrounded by four lions rampant inside a diamond, which suggests a royal connection, however remote it may be.The dessert spoons were made in London by silversmith Jeremiah King and date to 1739. Jeremiah King registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1723. He was a specialist spoon and flatware maker and produced pieces of consistently high quality. He remained in business until around 1750.
Condition is very good, with just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 285 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 15.8cm / 6.2ins long and the pair together weigh in at a very respectable 59.1g / 2.08oz of solid Sterling Silver.
As was always the case at this time, the hallmarks are bottom struck but in this instance they are much less distorted than usual. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter d for 1739 and the distinctive J King "signature" makers' mark for Jeremiah King.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
