Description

This is an elegant George V Glass Vase with a Sterling Silver Top Rim. The handblown glass vase has a circular flat base, pannelled tapered sides and a band of leaf decoration around the upper part of the body.

The vase was made in London by Henry Williamson Ltd and dates to 1924. Henry Williamson opened his first premises in London's Farringdon Street in 1879. The firm expanded to became Henry Williamson Ltd in 1894, opened a manufacturing premises in Spencer Street, Birmingham and also commissioned pieces from Sheffield, all to run alongside the London showroom. They specialised in small silverware items for the dining table, the dressing table or for personal use. The company finally ceased trading in the late 1920s.

Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a few tiny dings in the small silver rim plus the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vase stands 15.3cm / 6ins high and is 5.3cm / 2ins across the base. It weighs in at 115.8g / 4.08oz.

The hallmarks on the silver rim are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter i for 1924 and the H W Ld makers' mark for Henry Williamson Ltd.
