Description

This is an attractive Set of Three George V Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The rings are circular with an engraved design of scrolling acanthus leaves around the bodies and broad blank cartouches on the fronts.

The napkin rings were made in Birmingham by silversmith John Rose and date to 1919. John Rose founded his firm at Hockley Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in 1900. They quickly became successful and produced a wide range of silverware, particularly smoking accessories and tableware. The company remained in business into the late 1970s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 105 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each napkin ring is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 1.8cm / 0.71ins deep. The three together weigh in at a respectable 59.6g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside back of the bodies, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the J R makers' mark for John Rose.
