Here we have a stunning Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Vase from the 1910s. The vase has a domed circular base and a slender trumpet shaped body supported by three Art Nouveau style buttresses. The body and the base are planished or hammered all over making for a very striking design.

The vase was made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Walker & Hall and dates to 1915. Walker & Hall are one of the great names of English silverware. The firm was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853 to form Walker & Hall. Hugely successful and very highly regarded they remained in business until they were merged with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.

Condition is good with just a small flat spot on the base, a slight kink to the rim and a couple of very shallow bruises on the body plus the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vase stands 20.1cm / 7.9ins high and is 7.4cm / 2.9ins in diameter. It weighs in at a substantial 151.0g / 5.32oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the top of the base, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter x for 1915 and the distinctive W & H in a pennant makers' mark for Walker & Hall.
