William IV Pewter Teapot, James Dixon, c.1830-35

Description
This is an unusual and distinctive William IV Pewter Teapot. The body of the teapot is of compressed lobed form with a circular base which stands on four scroll decorated bracket feet. The wooden handle is C-shaped with a top spur and the spout curves upwards. The hinged lid is lobed and has a matching mother of pearl finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The teapot was made in Sheffield by the famous firm of James Dixon & Son and dates to between around 1830 and 1835. The firm was founded around 1806 by James Dixon and Thomas Smith. Smith withdrew in 1824 and in the late 1820s William Dixon joined his father to create James Dixon & Son. A second son, James Dixon Jnr joined in 1835 and the firm was renamed James Dixon & Sons, the name it retained thereafter.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the overall superficial wear and tear that has to be expected after 190 years or more of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teapot has a capacity of 852ml / 1.5pints. It is 24cm / 9.4ins from spout to handle, 17cm / 6.7ins across the body and 15cm / 5.9ins high. It weighs in at 863g / 30.4oz.
The underside of the base is stamped James Dixon & Son, which, along with the design, gives us our date range of around 1830 to 1835.
