Description

Here we have an elegant Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Belt Buckle from the Edwardian era. The two pronged buckle is oblong with a pierced flowing design of flowers and foliage and rounded corners.

The buckle was made in Birmingham by G.E. Walton & Co and dates to 1901. George Edwin Walton founded his company in the early 1880s with manufacturing in Birmingham and a showroom in London's prestigious Hatton Garden. They produced a very wide range of items including tableware and flatware, desk accessories, dressing table items and smoking accessories. The firm ceased trading in 1913.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 120 years of good service. All the fastening elements move smoothly and securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The buckle is 7.8cm / 3ins high and 4cm / 1.5ins wide. It weighs in at a respectable 28.7g / 1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the back of the buckle are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter b for 1901 and the G.E.W makers' mark for G.E. Walton & Co.
