Description

This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Cigarette Holder with an amber mouthpiece. The silver holder is engraved with foliage.

The cigarette holder was made in Birmingham for Hall & Fitzgerald and dates to 1919. The company was founded in the 1870s by William Hall and Edward Davies in Bristol. Fitzgerald was presumably a replacement for Davies at some point. They were wholesalers of pipes and smoking accessories and registered silver marks in London, Birmingham and Chester, with Birmingham being the one most commonly seen. The firm ceased trading in 1982.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents in the silver and just the wear you would expect around the mouthpiece with use and the passage of time. It remains in perfectly usable condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The cigarette holder is 5.8cm long and 1.1cm in diameter. It weighs 4.6g.

The hallmarks, at the bottom of the holder, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the H & F sponsors' mark for Hall & Fitzgerald.
