Description

This is a distinctive Early 20th Century Pewter Four Piece Tea and Coffee Set. The set consists of a teapot, a coffee pot, a cream jug and a sugar bowl. The pieces are broadly oval with scalloped sides and have an all over planished finish, typical of pewter ware in the 1910s and 1920s.

The set is made from Argent Pewter. This was an English style of pewter made by several different companies that had a finish applied to the outside to give it a more silvery appearance, particularly when it catches the light. It was developed at the end of the 19th century and used sporadically until the late 1930s.

Condition is good, with just a small dent near the base of the spout on the teapot and a little ding to the base of the sugar bowl, plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The teapot is 24.2cm / 9.5ins from spout to handle, 10.7cm / 4.2ins across the body and 12cm / 4.7ins high. The coffee pot is 21cm / 8.25ins from lip to handle, 10.7cm / 4.2ins across the body and 16cm / 6.3ins high. The cream jug is 15.1cm / 5.9ins from lip to handle, 8.1cm / 3.2ins across the body and 6.8cm / 2.7ins high. The sugar bowl is 17.2cm / 6.8ins from handle to handle, 9.3cm / 3.6ins across the body and 7.1cm / 2.8ins high. All together, the four piece set weighs 1.54kg / 54.36oz.

The underside of each piece is stamped ARGENT PEWTER and ENGLISH MADE.
