Description

Here we have a handsome George V Sterling Silver Bachelor Teapot. The teapot has a circular base, a tapering upright body, a domed hinged lid, an upward pointing spout and a scroll handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The teapot was made in Birmingham by Synyer & Beddoes and dates to 1911. Founded by Harry Synyer and Charles Joseph Beddoes in 1896, the firm operated from premises in Vyse Street at the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. They produced a very wide range of silverware of consistently good quality and remained in business until around 1950.

Condition is very good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the body of the teapot plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 110 years of use. The hinge is in good working order and the lid sits snugly on top of the pot. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The teapot has a one pint capacity. It measures 18cm / 7.1ins from spout to handle, 9.7cm / 3.8ins across the body and stands 13cm / 5.1ins high. It weighs in at 344g / 12.1oz.

The hallmarks on the side of the body are quite rubbed but there is also a secondary partial set inside the lid which are nice and clear. Together they show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1911 and the S B either side of a star makers' mark for Synyer & Beddoes.
