Description

This is an elegant Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The ring is circular with a pierced design of sinuous flowers and foliage surrounding a blank circular cartouche.

The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by silversmith John Rose and dates to 1907. John Rose founded his firm at Hockley Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in 1900. They quickly became successful and produced a wide range of silverware, particularly smoking accessories and tableware. The company remained in business into the late 1970s

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced work and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 118 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The napkin ring is 4.3cm / 1.7ins in diameter and 2.6cm / 1in deep. It weighs in at a respectable 19.8g / 0.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the J R makers' mark for John Rose.
