George V Silver Topped Dressing Table Pot, 1916

1 of 6
Description
This is a stylish George V Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver lid. The pot is cylindrical with slice cut sides whilst the silver lid has engine turned stripes around a blank cartouche on the top and a gilded interior. The dressing table pot was made in London by the renowned Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1916. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with Garrard & Co.
Condition is good with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a few little dings in the silver lid plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 105 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot stands 13.2cm / 5.2ins high and is 3.7cm / 1.4ins in diameter. The lid by itself weighs in at 16.1g / 0.57oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the pot weighs 162.7g / 5.7oz.
The hallmarks, on the rim of the lid, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter a for 1916 and the distinctive G & S Co Ltd makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Limited.
