Description

This is a charming pair of late Victorian Sterling Silver Trinket Dishes. The dishes have heart shaped bases standing on three ball feet. The pierced sides are decorated with ribbon garlands, heart motifs and scrolls around the top rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The trinket dishes were made in Birmingham by J.R. Ltd and date to 1898. J.R. Ltd were manufacturing silversmiths that operated in Birmingham from around 1890. They primarily produced smoking accessories, tableware and dressing table items. The firm remained in business up until about 1910

Condition is very good, with no damage to the pierced sections and just a few truly tiny dings in the bases, as you would anticipate after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each dish is 8.2cm / 3.2ins by 7.4cm / 2.9ins and stands 1.5cm / 0.59ins high. The pair together weigh in at a respectable 28.0g / 0.99oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, just above the base on each dish, are slightly rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter y for 1898 and the J.R.Ld makers' mark for J.R. Ltd.
