Description

This is an exquisite French 900 Silver and Enamel Belt Buckle from the Belle Epoque era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The oval buckle has been engine turned on the top, which has then been overlaid with white enamel and blue rims and finally the most delicate flower design has been added with gold compass motifs in the four corners.

The buckle was made in France between around 1890 and 1910. The makers' mark is a monogram of H and S, so it could be either SH or HS. We haven't as yet been able to identify this maker but they were clearly extremely skilful.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents in the silver and crucially no damage to the enamel on the front. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The buckle is 7.6cm / 3ins across and 6.4cm / 2.5ins high. It weighs in at 43.6g / 1.5oz.

The underside of the buckle is stamped 900 for 900/1000 grade silver, has the SH or HS makers' mark and the word DEPOSE, which is the French equivalent of a registered design.
