George V Silver Cream Jug, F Higgins, 1935

Description
This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Cream Jug. The Art Deco era design is of squat form with a bulbous body, flat base and ribbed handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The cream jug was made in London by renowned silversmiths Francis Higgins & Son Ltd and dates to 1935. Francis Higgins was an apprentice at Chawner & Co before setting up his own business in 1817. He was a highly skilled specialist spoon maker and a principal supplier to Hunt & Roskell, one of the most famous 19th century retail silversmiths. The firm prospered and Chawner & Co would later come under the ownership of his family business.
Condition is good with just a shallow bruise low down on either side of the body plus the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cream jug is 10.6cm / 4.2ins from lip to handle, 7.4cm / 2.9ins across the body and stands 5.8cm / 2.3ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 101.0g / 3.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter u for 1935 and the F.H & S Ltd makers' mark for Francis Higgins & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cream jug.
