This is a smart Vintage Sterling Silver Mounted Pepper Grinder from the 1980s. The body of the pepper grinder is turned wood and the grinder mechanism is steel. The top is made of Sterling Silver.

The grinder was made in London by David Shaw Silverware and dates to 1983. Established in 1973, David Shaw Silverware operated from premises in London's Clerkenwell Road, the City of London's traditional home for silversmiths. They produced a broad range of silverware, mostly for table use, until they ceased trading in 1992.

Condition is good with just a couple of knocks to the silver top. The grinder mechanism is in working order and there are no splits in the wood. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The grinder stands 10.3cm / 4ins high and is 4.2cm / 1.6ins in diameter. It weighs 130.4g / 4.6oz.

The hallmarks, on the top of the grinder, are somewhat rubbed but can still be deciphered. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter I for 1983 and the D S S makers' mark for David Shaw Silverware.
