Description

Here we have a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Cheese Scoop or Stilton Scoop. The scoop is in the Princess No.1 pattern, a variation on the King's pattern. The letter M is elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.

The cheese scoop was made in London by The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1907. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The stilton scoop is 20.6cm / 8.1ins long and 3.3cm / 1.3ins across the bowl. It weighs in at a substantial 94.1g / 3.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter m for 1907 and the distinctive G & S Co Ltd makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Limited.

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cheese scoop.
