Description

This is an attractive Art Nouveau Style Pewter Fruit Bowl. The lobed bowl is round with two raised sides and stands on four legs. The interior is part planished and has four embossed flower, leaf and stem motifs raising up the sides.

The fruit bowl was made in Birmingham by Samuel Groves & Co as part of their Roundhead Pewter range and dates to around the 1920s/30s. Samuel Groves & Co was a metalware company established around 1916/17 in Birmingham. They principally made kitchenware but also produced a range of art pewterware under the brand name Roundhead Pewter between 1922 and the early 1950s. The company changed ownership many times during the latter part of the 20th century and is now simply a brand name.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. It is part polished and you could either buff it to a high silvery shine or leave it to develop its natural patina according to personal taste. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The fuit bowl is 25.5cm / 10ins in diameter and stands 7.2cm / 2.8ins high. It weighs in at 884g / 31.2oz.

The underside of the base is stamped ROUDHEAD LEADLESS PEWTER around the figure of a roundhead soldier and below this MADE IN ENGLAND and the product number 8297.
